Please note, that our integrated CD-ROMs run on
multiple platforms, including Win 3.1,
3.11, Win '95/98 and Win NT as well as the Macintosh 6800x and the
PowerPC under operating systems: OS7.x and 8.x. (Future
operating systems will be tested, made compatible with our products -
if at all possible and listed here. The individual image and video
objects can be played/ viewed in the
Unix environment. ALL FROM
THE SAME CD-ROM! This is why our setup procedure is slightly more
complex than just a click (in Windows). Note that the simple (max.
five step) setup procedure is listed in the back of the booklet in
the CD jacket too.
In this page you will find the following:
CIMware CD-ROMs prefer 800x600 screen resolution and thousands of colors (16 bit) for best results. Our CD-ROMs will run on 640x480 and 256 colors, but the quality of the images will not be as good as with thousands of colors (16 bit). It will furthermore run on 640x480 and thousands of colors, but again the quality of the images will be better in 800x600 with thousands of colors (16 bit) mode.
Let us take you through here a typical setup procedure. Your particular procedure might be slightly different, depending on the display drivers you use in your computer:
1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Double click on "Control Panel"
3. Find "Display Icon" and double click
4. Choose "Settings" by double clicking on it
5. Set "High color" (i.e. 16 bit in the Color Palette
6. In the "Desktop Area" move dial to 800x600 pixels
7. Click on "Apply"
8. When the "Display Properties" dialog box pops up indicating: "Do you want to specify a monitor now?" - choose "YES", by clicking on "YES"
9. In the list of "Manufacturers" choose the monitor you have, alternatively, if you don't know what you have or don't find it in the list, suggest to choose "Standard monitor types". In the "Models" scroll-down list, choose "Super VGA 800x600". Click on "OK" to accept settings.
10. In order to activate these settings in Windows you have to restart. To do this, in the "System settings change" dialog box accept "Restart", by clicking on "YES".
1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Double click on "End User Directory"
3. Now you will install "QuickTime for Windows". Choose "Local" and click on "Continue". If installation was "Successful" click on "OK".
1. Put the CIMware CD-ROM into the CD player
2. Double click on "My Computer". In the CD window (root directory) e.g. "ce_intr1 (D:)" double click on the "Player icon" to install the main driver for the CD-ROM, the player software
3. In the "File Directories" window double click on the "cdppf" icon. This will open a list of files in the "Files names list". Choose "cdstart.ppf" by double clicking on it to start the CD-ROM.
4. In the "Links" message box click on "Ignore All" to start the CD-ROM. Enjoy the program, you are now running under CIMware's CD-ROM controls.
As we state, you can have access to the individual resources on CIMware CDs, including text, videos, photos, animation, etc. You can copy and paste these resources (or objects) into your own document and use them with many different third party graphics and word processing packages. This is an ideal feature of the CIMware CD-ROMs if you want to compile your own sparkling presentation off-line or real-time, or when you want to write a superb assignment - obviously within copyright restrictions (please refer to CIMware's Multimedia License Agreement ).
1. Click with the mouse on the Win'95 "Start" button - usually at the bottom left corner in the toolbar.
2. In "Programs" choose "QuickTime for Windows" and then choose either the "Movie Player" for viewing digital videos or the "Picture viewer" for looking at digital photos. (Text stored on the CD-ROM can be looked up using the standard Win "Notepad" program -see explained later)
3. How to view Digital Videos: In the "Movie Player", in the "Open" dialog box change the drive to that of the CD drive (usually the D: drive) and then in the "Filename" window choose any movie with a .mov extension by double clicking on it.
4. How to view Digital Photos: In the "Picture Viewer", in the "Open" dialog box change the drive to that of the CD drive (usually the D: drive) and then in the "Filename" window choose any file with a .jpg extension by double clicking on it. (Note, that you might find files with .pic extensions too. (These are better quality Mac files, that you might be able to read on your PC too, depending on your configuration and drivers)
5. How to look up text files and view them. The procedure is very similar to the above, accept, that you need to run the standard Win "Notepad" program, via Start - Program - Accessories - Notepad. As an example you can open and read, even print, the CIMware Multimedia Licence Agreement like this.
Set the Macintosh screen resolution preferably to 832 x 624 and the number of colors to thousands (in "Controls" and "Monitor"). Note, that the CIMware CD-ROMs will also run in lower resolution, i.e. 640x480 and 256 colors, but the quality will be obviously better in higher resolution.
Since QuickTime is pre-installed on all Macs, you don't need to install QuickTime (in most cases). (If you click on a video on the CD and it won't play it means that you don't have QuickTime on your system. Don't panic, the CD has a downloadable copy! Download it, put it into the System Folder and restart the machine.)
The installation of the CD-ROM is very simple:
1. Load CD-ROM and wait a few seconds (you need a min. 2x CD drive, but 4x or higher will be much faster!)
2. Double click on the CIMware logo on your screen and then wait a few seconds to run the CD.

All images (i.e photos, line diagrams), videos and most of the text can be accessed separately from the CD-ROM. Standard Mac packages, such as teachtext, or Simpletext, or MoviePlayer can do this for you just by clicking on the image's name. It is as simple as this...
